CHPCA Day at the Capitol

March 13th 9AM, Legislative Office Building Room 1B, Hartford, CT

With the approaching 2024 legislative session, bills are already being drafted to shape the future of our climate and health in Connecticut. To connect with key stakeholders, decision-makers, and like-minded advocates, CHPCA will be hosting our Day at the Capitol press conference. Please join fellow climate & health advocates!

CHPCA, along with numerous other health care groups, signed onto the American Lung Association’s letter to the EPA regarding expanding the scope of newly proposed powerplant regulations. These regulations would be a win for health and our environment. Click the link to read the letter.

Victory for Environmental Justice: Passing SB1147

The CT general assembly passed Senate Bill 1147: An Act Concerning the Environmental Justice Program of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. This bill protects families’ health and the environment by enhancing the state’s environmental justice statute and providing DEEP and the Connecticut Siting Council with the ability to deny permits for facilities that would worsen pollution in already-overburdened areas. Limiting these exposures is a win for CT!

We are proud to have joined on with the CT Coalition for Climate Action. The collective action of this coalition made the passage of this landmark bill possible.

Connecticut Health Professionals for Climate Action

CHPCA is a nonpartisan interdisciplinary alliance of health professionals who recognize that climate change represents a public health emergency of the largest magnitude and believe it is our collective duty as health professionals to take immediate action to keep our planet habitable for all through climate action and other activities to promote environmental health.

Changing the world is possible. But we need to act now.

As a group of health professionals we are uniquely positioned to speak about the health harms of climate change. Caring for our patients also requires caring for our planet. We need swift and bold policy to combat the health harms of climate change and our policymakers need to hear from us.

We are looking for health professionals to help us advocate, educate, and protect the future health of our state. If you have ideas or want to get involved please feel free to contact us!
